Mobility Trends for the year 2014

Global mobility software revenues including BYOD enabling applications has been estimated at over USD 200 billion with a 15% CAGR between 2010 to 2020 by Frost and Sullivan. The growing importance of mobility across enterprise and SMBs create several untapped and unexplored opportunities for both organisations and product development companies.

With mobile devices getting more affordable, improved internet connectivity and the need to be on toes 24/7 to run a business is making companies more open to the idea of mobile adoption.  Here are five important enterprise mobility trends to watch out for in the year 2014.

1. BYOD to CYOD – Concept of an extended workplace is now established and enterprises are seeking ways to support the geographical spread of mobile workforce. Several large companies have implemented the BYOD policy i.e, ‘Bring Your Own Device’ which allows employees to work on their own device and the company on the other hand provides employees with the requisite software. But with increasing fragmentation of mobile device ecosystem, it is becoming increasingly difficult for companies to maintain uniformity in device and apps usage. So most enterprises are now implementing ‘Choose Your Own Device’ (CYOD) instead of BYOD, where companies will pre-select a mobile ecosystem.

2. User authentication & Identity Management – Data is the biggest asset for an organisation which makes user identification and authentication a top priority. For efficient access and identity management, companies will need to focus on defining privacy policies regarding device usage, single user sign in and controlled access to information via employee designation on mobility devices.

3. Enterprise-focused App Development – Mobile apps are at the essense of enhancing enterprise mobility. Earlier when enterprise mobility was a new entity, enterprises were ready to compromise with pre-existing apps. But now that it has become a happening trend, so requirements have also become more specific and clear.

4. Cloud Security on Mobility Devices – Many companies are still reluctant to opt for cloud-based services for protecting enterprise data. But mobility solutions facilitating collaborative environment does demand use of cloud technology. Internet browsing via mobile is certainly a threat for businesses, and using cloud on top of that only makes it more unsafe. So securing cloud technology for mobility solutions is an alarming must for businesses.

5. Managed Mobility Services – Non-IT enterprises are also trying to incorporate mobility in their business processes and their one stop mobility solutions lie with IT product development companies that are always on lookout for new trends as these trends are keys to their expansion and growth.
